The book that started the little offcut collection.
This is the very first little sketchbook I made using the pieces of beautiful watercolour paper left over from cutting the pages for my larger handbound books.
It began simply as an experiment. I wanted to see whether those smaller pieces of paper could become something lovely in their own right — so I folded them, stitched them together and made this little marbled book.
And this was the result.
As Prototype No. 1, the binding isn't quite as refined as the books I make now. There are small irregularities in the stitching and finish that came from experimenting with the construction, so I've priced it accordingly. They don't take away from its usefulness as a sketchbook, but they're part of the story of this particular book.
Inside are 32 pages of Arches 300gsm cold pressed, 100% cotton watercolour paper — beautiful artist-quality paper that was simply too good to waste.
The cover is finished in colourful marbled paper with a textured deep red cloth spine.
There will never be another Prototype No. 1. ❤️
