A little handbound sketchbook created from a repurposed Lorna Doone book cover, retaining the original deep green cloth and beautiful gold lettering.
For this book I experimented with a different style of binding, leaving the stitching visible along the spine as part of the design. The exposed binding gives it a lovely handmade character and allows you to see how the book has been constructed.
Inside are 52 pages of Khadi 100% cotton rag paper. Handmade from recycled cotton rag, Khadi paper has a wonderfully tactile surface and natural deckled edges, making each page slightly individual. It's particularly lovely for watercolour and other wet media, as well as drawing and mixed media.
Why is this in Seconds?
While making the exposed binding, one of the punched holes didn't line up quite as neatly as I wanted. It doesn't affect the use or strength of the sketchbook, but it doesn't meet the standard I want for my full-priced books.
Rather than waste a beautiful little book — and all that lovely Khadi paper — it's available in my Seconds collection at a reduced price.
